YIN YOGA WORKSHOP

with Nancy Causey

Sunday, September 21

2:30 ~ 5:00
$35

Yin Yoga is a quiet practice in which poses are held from 3 to 5 minutes, in a non-aggressive way, to allow connective tissue to soften. Connective tissue, which is all through our bodies, shrinks and tightens as we age, causing much of the pain we experience. The main practice of Yin Yoga focuses on the hips, back, and legs, where we have large masses of connective tissue.

In this workshop we will begin with a gentle warm up, followed by a yin practice and a few restorative poses, ending with a 30 minute yoga nidra session.

Space is limited so reserve early.

People frequently ask for recommendations about spiritual teachings and yoga related subjects. So I have decided to share what I have been reading and what our teachers are reading with recommendation from us all os us. Not long ago Caitilin recommended to me “A Path with Heart” by Jack Kornfield, which I promptly read. It quickly becoming one of my all time favorite books and a fabulous guide to developing a meditation practice. It is a book you will read over many times.  A few years ago, Carola Lott, recommended “Three Cups of Tea”. Carola was vague about the content and I never sought the book out, until a few weeks ago while browsing a Barnes and Noble store and the book caught my eye. Remembering Carola’s praise for the book, I snatched it up and began reading that night. This has to be the most inspiring story I’ve heard in a very long time. This is a real person, who lives yoga (I doubt he has ever done a headstand). The work this man is doing is the way to change the world, it is the only way to peace. I hope everyone will read it and pass it on to people you know.  On a lighter note…. I have avoided reading “Marley & Me” for years - too afraid of hysterical crying at the end. Forget the hysterical crying, if you haven’t read this book, and want to laugh hysterically until you can’t see, “Marley & Me” is a must read. Not only the funniest book I’ve ever read, but a lesson in love andacceptance.

Enjoy these last days of summer.
Take a Yoga Class!

Dear Yogis and Yoginis,

Category: Scheduling, Yoga Barn News. Posted by Nancy at 8:31 pm, June 8, 2008.

Summer is in full swing with glorious weather these days and our hope is that you are savoring each wonderful minute.

NEW CLASS:
We have had requests for a 1 hour class; more mid-day classes; and another level 1 class. So combining all these elements we are announcing the addition of a 1 hour class at noon on Wednesdays immediately following the meditation class. It will be a level 1 class taught by Kathy Delia. It begins Wednesday, June 11th.

SATURDAY CLASS:
The overwhelming majority of you voted to keep the Saturday morning class at 10:00 and so it will remain.

NICOLAS AWAY:
Nicolas will be away from Wednesday, June 25th through Saturday, July 5th… so that means no classes for two weeks: no Svaroopa classes on:
Wednesday, June 25th; Friday, June 27th; Wednesday, July 2nd; or Friday, July 4th.
Back in business on Wednesday, July 9th.

SUNDAY MEDITATION CLASS:
The Sunday class is being moved up from 5:00 to 4:00 beginning this Sunday, June 8th.

JULY 4th
Is a Friday and we will be having class at 9:30 with Kavitha, but not at 4:30 with Nicolas.

Meditation Practice

Category: Workshops, Yoga Barn News. Posted by Nancy at 3:55 pm, May 19, 2008.

Meditation practice is at the heart of Yoga practice and we are very fortunate to have two wonderful meditation teachers coming to the Yoga Barn in June.

Charlotte Mann has been practicing Tibetan Buddhist Meditation for 20 years. From 1999 through 2003 Charlotte completed the traditional Tibetan 3 year retreat, qualifying her for the title of Lama. After traveling the world extensively Charlotte has settled in our community and will be leading a class in meditation and Buddhism at the Yoga Barn every Wednesday morning at 10:45, beginning Wednesday June 4th.

Class will be one hour and the focus will be mind calming, with and without support, awareness training, and insight practices. Charlotte will include explanations of the underlying philosophy and chanting if these are of interest to the attendees.

Annerie Cornelissen has been involved with the Divyanand Spiritual Foundation for 23 years, practicing Surat Shabd Yoga Meditation, and working as a volunteer with the Divyanand Spiritual Foundation in Stanfordville. DSF is a community of spiritual seekers who share a comminment to realizing the Divine within themselves, and to helping other seekers access the Divine within themselves through meditation. In June, Annerie will teach three classes on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. June 1st, June 8th, and June 15th.

Class will feature a spiritual discourse of the teachings of Soami Divyanand followed by a 30 minute meditation.

There is no charge for either of the meditation classes, but donations to the teachers are welcome.

Summer is almost here

Category: Scheduling, Yoga Barn News. Posted by Nancy at 3:53 pm, .

Dear Yogis and Yoginis,

Summer is here - almost - and along with summer, lots of fun stuff to do. So I figured it was a good time to begin offering monthly restorative yoga workshops as a way to remind ourselves to slow down once in awhile and savour the moments. Restorative yoga is a great way to slow down, restore ourselves and have a meditative experience rolled into one afternoon. The first one will be next Sunday, the 18th at 2:30 - see specifics above. The next one will be Sunday, June 22nd and there will be a reminder in the June newsletter.

Summer is also a time when everyone (or almost everyone) wants to get up earlier and get going to do all that fun stuff so we have a few questions about preferences in classes and times for the summer:

Saturday morning class - the choice is keeping the class at 10:00 a.m. or moving it up to 9:30 a.m. If you are a regular at the Saturday morning class please let me know your preference.
Thursday mornings - are you interested in a 75 minute class from 8:00 ~ 9:15 a.m.? Kathy Delia will teach a level 1 yoga class as she did in the winter, if there is enough interest.
Please let us know your thoughts on these two classes as well as any other thoughts you have regarding classes or activities at the Yoga Barn. You can email me at: njcausey@verizon.net

Nancy & Terry
